The creation of the Jammu Cantonment as a Class II A Cantonment is intervene with the creation of the State of J&K itself. By virtue of Article 370 of the constitution, the Constitution (application to J&K) order, 1954 with the concurrence of the Govt of Jammu & Kashmir was made. Accordingly the constitution of India became applicable to the state of J&K. At that time, Cantonment had six wards including one reserved for SC and the boundary of the wards were laid down in the Gazette notification. The land within the cantonment got vested in Ministry of Defence as a result of handover of same from the state forces.
